Since participating in Faret Tachikawa in 1994, Stasys Eidrigevičius has worked with Art Front Gallery on numerous art festivals and projects, including the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. This exhibition marks his first solo exhibition at Art Front Gallery in Daikanyama.The exhibition focuses on the motif of the mask, one of the defining elements of Stasys' artistic practice. Masks appear repeatedly throughout his work—not only in paintings and drawings, but also in sculptures, installations, and performances. For Stasys, the mask is not something that conceals a person's identity; rather, it serves as a device that reveals the emotions and essential nature hidden within. Reflecting the many roles we perform in society and the ambiguous boundary between our authentic selves and the selves we present to others, his works move fluidly between exterior and interior, reality and imagination, self and other. Through these shifting perspectives, they invite viewers to contemplate the universal question: What does it mean to be human?
Stasys will also participate in the international art festival Gero Art Discovery 2026, opening on 11 September 2026, where he will present two new site-specific works in Gero City. During the exhibition period, Art Front Gallery will also offer the Gero Art Discovery 2026 Artwork Passport and the festival's official guidebook for purchase. We warmly invite visitors to experience both Stasys' solo exhibition in Tokyo and his new artistic projects in Gero.

Stasys Eidogevicius
Stasys Eidrigevičius was born in Lithuania in 1949 and has lived in Warsaw, Poland, since 1980.
In addition to his work as a painter, he is active as a graphic artist and photographer, and has developed a wide-ranging artistic practice encompassing installation, sculpture, and performance. He is also a stage designer, poet, writer, and theatre director, and has held more than 100 solo exhibitions around the world. Through paintings, graphic works, posters, book illustrations, masks, and his distinctive series known as Bleeding and Lithuanian Melancholy, he has explored his own thoughts, experiences, journeys, and inner imaginative world.
His drawings have been published in internationally renowned newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, while his original plays have been staged at theatres in Warsaw. In Japan, his work has had a significant influence not only on the contemporary art scene but also on graphic designers, theatre practitioners, and many other creative professionals.
In 2001, he received the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, the country's highest cultural honor, and in 2019 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. In March 2024, the Stasys Museum opened in Panevėžys, Lithuania, dedicated to his life and work.
