The Blooming
This public sculpture, over 5 meters tall, was installed as a new symbol representing Fukuoka to the world, in conjunction with the construction of Building B of the city’s MICE facility, Marine Messe Fukuoka. It was created to celebrate the city of Fukuoka as it moves toward the future, while valuing the vitality and history of Fukuoka Port and Marine Messe, sites of diverse exchange. Although the work is Western-style in appearance, it also incorporates motifs painted on its body that reflect Fukuoka’s maritime scenery, ancient seafarers, and the Azumi clan(安曇族), in reference to the city’s traditional Yamakasa festival.
